Did you know...?

• Michigan has eight different types (species) of native trillium.

• All have 3 petals, 3 sepals, and 3 leaves. Immature plants may have 1 or 2 leaves. Occasionally they may have 4, 5, or 6 parts.

• Four have white flowers, three have red flowers, one has white flowers with red markings. Some appear pink when fading. Rarely they may have a yellow flower.

• Four are listed on the Michigan Threatened & Endangered Species list. You may not impact them without a special permit from the Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources.

• All are protected under The Christmas Greens Act.

• You may not transplant them without the written consent of the property owner. You can buy them from catalogs (cultivated plants are not protected) but make sure they are nursery-grown and not wild-collected.
